10-Year Alumni Honoree Katie (Schiller) Hoke

iapd_katiehoke Katie Hoke, selected by the IAPD Faculty as the 10-Year Alumni Honoree for 2013 will visit Manhattan Thursday and Friday of this week. She will meet with students and faculty, participate in class and studio visits, and be honored at a luncheon. An exhibit of her professional work is displayed in the Chang Gallery through the duration of her visit. Hoke is a licensed interior designer (NCIDQ) earned a bachelor's degree in interior architecture from Kansas State University in 2003. After graduating, she attended the Summer Furniture Design Program through Denmark's International Study Program, where she received her certificate of furniture design studies. An avid equestrian, she has served as Project Manager and Creative Director at White Horse Barns in Seattle where she designed and developed a line of high-end horse stables and riding arenas.

In 2007 she joined McClellan Architects in Seattle, where she developed and leads the interior architecture and design studio. Her professional portfolio consists of high-end commercial interiors, retail design and custom residences. Prior to her work as Senior Interior Designer and Project Manager for McClellan Architects, Hoke worked as a Project Architect with the Seattle office of Gensler where she designed and managed commercial interior projects for retail, workplace, civic, and large commercial projects ranging in scope from 2,000 SF to 300,000 SF.  Hoke has a rich history of volunteerism, and values high level design and team collaboration. She believes that the interior design and function should reflect the client's life and habits, providing the optimal environment in which to feel relaxed and at home.

Research Symposium

The inaugeral APDesign Research Symposium will occur this Saturday and many of our IAPD students were successful in the initial process of selection and will be engaged through a poster or presentation of their work! Visiting

We welcome Dr. Professor Paulette Hebert, who is joining us this week while on sabbatical from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Hebert will give a presentation on Thursday at 2:00 in the Pierce Commons. She will also visit classes and meet with individual students with an interest in lighting design.

Lunch 'n Learn

Fourth year student Sarah Swaim has been successful in lining up our first Lunch 'n Learn for the semester - look for an email from Sarah asking for RSVPs so our presenters know how much lunch to provide. Phil Ross from Interface/Flor will be here on November 13. These Lunch 'n Learns are aimed at providing students from all disciplines in our college with current knowledge of industry-related products and topics. RSVP by November 8 to Sarah.
