OPPORTUNITIES

Dear Students and Faculty,

As you consider your activities over the winter break, we bring to your attention several opportunities to enter competitions and the like. Some of these may mean simply revising your projects a slight amount to meet the requirements, but well worth the effort! Just a reminder that these opportunities, as well as internship and job opportunities are found on our IAPD website.

SOURCE AWARD LIGHTING COMPETITION

$1500 FIRST PLACE; DEADLINE TO ENTER: JAN 20, 2016

The SOURCE Awards competition is open to all lighting designers, architects, engineers, professional designers and consultants who use Eaton's lighting fixtures in an interior or exterior design project. Students currently enrolled in any of these disciplines are also eligible to enter projects based on conceptual lighting designs that utilize Eaton's lighting fixures; Student entries are judged in a separate student category. The competition seeks a creative use of fixtures providing energy-efficient design solutions in addition to standard projects. More here.

APDESIGN SCHOLARSHIPS

The College of Architecture, Planning and Design offers a number of scholarships to students each year. All scholarships consider academic performance and some require financial need as a basis for consideration in addition to academic performance and other considerations. Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better are strongly encouraged to apply. Last year over 170 students in the College received some form of scholarship support. IIDA/OFS STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION

You are invited to conceptualize the future of an urban university mixed-use building that integrates the functions associated with a higher education campus while considering adaptive learning, integration of corporate and business resources, community involvement, and alternative education resources. $2500 first place. Deadline is February 1, 2016. Learn more here.

DURKAN DESIGN COMPETITION

Discover your eye for design, specific to the hospitality industry. Show us your view, and your own take on carpet design. Think outside the box and make the typical carpet design for hotels something different. Show us what you've got and tell us how you got there through your eyes. Application deadline is February 26, 2016.

SHERMAN-WILLIAMS STIR STUDENT DESIGN CHALLENGE

Sherwin-Williams STIR Student Design Challenge is back for 2016. This contest opens for entries on March 1. Students may enter as individuals or as a design team and there is no entry fee. First prize will receive $2,500 and a feature in STIR magazine. For details on the rules, visit the website.

2016 ZINC CHALLENGE

Interzinc is hosting a competition to design a suitable product or tool that takes advantage of the properties of zinc die casting for use in the environment. All information for this competition can be found on their website. The Deadline is March 1st.

IIDA BOOTH DESIGN COMPETITION AT ORGATEC

First place is a fully paid trip to Orgatec Trade Fair in Cologne Germany. Sponsored by IIDA and VITRA, this competition gives students the opportunity to have their design concept executed at a global trade show. See information here.

NEWH FUND YOUR FUTURE SCHOLARSHIP

NEWH is awarding scholarships for students pursuing careers in hospitality. They award scholarships annually, in amounts ranging from $1500-$10,000. Read the letter to see if you qualify and then submit an application. Deadline is March 18, 2016. Check out the NEWH website - they have multiple opportunities for students including a Product Design Competition!

EDRA GRADUATE STUDENT WORKSHOP

Present and discuss your ongoing research with senior mentors in an environment-behavior design research to strengthen and further your thesis or dissertation work. All design students at a graduate level are invited to apply in the workshop. For all the information you need about this opportunity click here.

Faculty: IDSA 2016 EDUCATION SYMPOSIUM - CALL FOR PAPERS

Submit a paper on Making Things Happen In Design Education. You must submit your paper online. Learn everything you need to know here. Submission deadline: March 25, 2016.
