DEAN DE NOBLE HONORED
Dean Tim de Noble has been recognized regionally for his contributions to promoting the profession of architecture. The board of directors of the American Institute of Architects Kansas City recently named Tim de Noble its 2016 Architecture Advocate of the Year
 
In recognizing de Noble, the board cited his efforts to elevate APDesign and the architecture profession at the university and state levels since becoming dean in 2009. The board also recognized de Noble's role in assisting the university with its new campus master plan and with the many building projects on campus in the last few years.
PRODUCT DESIGN INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

IIDA COMPETITION
The Student Design Competition celebrates original design and rewards individuals and/or teams whose projects demonstrate innovative, functional design solutions that have a positive environmental and human impact, while allowing emerging professionals the opportunity to showcase their work and fresh design ideas to professionals working in the field.
Deadline to Enter - Monday, Feb. 6, 2017
First, second, and third place winners will be selected by a jury of interior design and business professionals who will judge entries based on innovation and creativity, coherence and functionality, human impact, fulfillment of program requirements, and presentation of the information.
Prizes from OFS Brands: 1st Place - $2,500 2nd Place - $1,500 3rd Place - $750
Winners will be announced in the Spring 2017 issue of QUAD, the IIDA student newsletter, and featured in DesignMatters and on the IIDA website.
KUDOS TO VIBHA JANI
Congrats to Vibha for the acceptance of her submission to the EDRA 48 Conference.  Her paper is entitled Designing Informal Learning Environments to Foster Collaboration and Team Work Among University Students.  The Conference will be at the Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison Wisconsin in May.

Students graduating have the option of participating in the Graduate School ceremony in addition to the APDesign ceremony. If you intend to participate in the Graduate School program please let the IAPD office know by email at  iapd@ksu.edu.
OPEN HOUSE COLORING BOOK SUBMISSIONS
Faculty and students are invited to send in line drawings of work to be featured in the second APDesign coloring book! This will be used as an Open House give-away and activity. If you have something that you would like to be featured please send your drawings (PDF) formatted to an 8.5x11 book. Send drawings to Thom Jackson at tjackson@ksu.edu.

Putting Your International Experience to Work
Thursday, Feb 9, 6:00 PM, Seaton 306 (Returned Study Abroad Students ONLY) [TRANSITION TO CAREER, SPECIAL TOPIC] Joe Milostan of Study Abroad will co-lead this workshop with Andrew Kohls from the Career Center. In the workshop, you'll reflect on your study abroad experience and learn to incorporate these experiences into your resumes and cover letters, as well as how to talk about your international experiences in a professional way.
Speed Portfolio Reviews + Resume Critiques

IIDA PORTFOLIOS & PROFESSIONALS
 
IIDA Portfolio + Professionals PLUS will take place         on February 24th in Kansas City.  Sophomore through Senior Interior Architecture students are invited to bring         their completed or in progress portfolios and receive feedback in         one-on-one discussions.  Breakout sessions will also cover         graphics, interview tips, etiquette, and more.  PLUS, this year they're offering additional and exclusive events on Thursday evening and         Friday morning.  Registration is now open
 
Are you interested in assistance with your portfolio?   Amie Keener is happy to review IAPD student portfolios and offer feedback.   Please reach out and schedule an appointment by February 10.
