November 16, 2016 Construction Update

Photo 3: A peek into Regnier Forum. Looking to the east, the structural steel has been installed. In a short time, this space will be transformed to the college’s premier lecture space, ready for incredible guest lectures, panels, etc.
In the basement, crews are installing condensate piping in the trench and connecting to the condensate pump. All the testing has been completed for the new steam line and crews are hopeful they will be able to turn the steam on this Friday. Additionally, crews started and will complete the select shear wall demolition at the tie-in to the link this week. Crews will begin forming to pour the wall infills. On the first floor, crews continue electrical and overhead ductwork installation. Drywall continues on the second floor. Crews estimate 90% of the drywall will be complete this week except at the pivot walls. Gypsum underlayment will start November 17th. On the roof, workers are installing cap sheet and metal flashing. Roof work will continue in this area into early December.
The erection of Stair #5, at the south end of the new building, will finish this week. Stair #3, at the north end of the new building, will be delivered at the end of this week. Tapered insulation is building installed as crews work from the north end of the building to the south (towards the link). Masonry crews are installing CMU blocks at the connection with the link. Once completed, roofing crews will finish the roof installation. Stone cladding continues at the north end of the fabrication lab and have begun work on the southeast portion of the new building. Curtainwall crews anticipate having the northeast portion completed prior to Thanksgiving minus the jambs. Crews will continue with fabrication lab curtainwall on the north and south sides of the building. In the basement, electrical crews continue rough-ins while crews are pulling wire for power and lighting conduits in some overhead and in-wall locations. Installation of fire alarm and security conduits are also being installed. Mechanical crews are installing low pressure steam piping and heated water piping. Additionally, crews are focused on installing piping in the water service room. Hard lid hangers are being fabricated. Similar work is occurring on the first floor ahead of anticipated inspections throughout the end of November and beginning of December. On the second floor, mechanical crews will start trunk lines next week. Plumbing crews are focusing on storm drain piping and heated water piping.
Structural steel in the auditorium is being completed with final detailing occurring at the present time and roofing crews are finishing field measurements. The south and east portions of Regnier Hall shingles have been installed. Crews are moving to the west side. Attic spray foam insulation is scheduled to start Monday followed by attic sprinkler piping installation and gypsum on the underside of trusses to be installed in early December.
October 26, 2016 Construction Update
Work contines to reconnect the permanent steam line that feeds Seaton Central. This week crews will begin installing medium pressure steam piping (basement). On the first floor, only the mechanicals shafts and corridor west wall framing needs to occur. This work will begin upon completion of shear wall furring that is currently taking place on the second floor. Crews continue installation of storm drains and ductwork. On the second level, fire sprinkler rough-in should be complete by the end of this week. Crews are also painting rood wood decking and existing structure. Looking ahead, second floor in-wall inspection is schedule for this week, drywall will begin following. Gypcrete work is to begin mid-November. Guardrails measurements are being taken and delivery will be scheduled. Crews are also working on temporary heating plans.
The stairs at the connection of the Link and the new building will be delivered this week. Roofing crews are installing the cap sheet on the east side. Vapor barrier installation on the west side is complete and installation of ply and insultation will begin next week. Overflow drain clamping rings are being installed. Crews have finished the south fab lab vertical stone and are setting soffit stone on the south side. Crews are also working on the north Fab Lab vertical stone. All of the precast is set on the northwest elevation. Curtain wall crews are setting glazing on the west elevation. Mechanical crews have installed trunk lines in the basement and are tracking to perform pressure testing at the beginning of next week. Basement domestic water, waste, and vent piping are complete and will be inspected Friday. Crews are on first and second floors tying in the storm drains. Electrical crews are installing overhead power and data conduits in the basement. This rough-in work is scheduled to finish in mid-November. Electrical in-wall rough-ins in the basement should be ready for in-wall inspection next week. On the first floor, VAV’s were delivered and hung with trunk lines in process. Installation of fire surpression system piping is scheduled to begin next week. On the second floor, wall framing has been installed to the perimeter of the buidling following the curtin wall framing. The Level 3 Link slab on metal deck was poured today and the northwall will be poured next week.
In the Jewel, first floor slab on metal deck is being poured today. Slab on grade will be poured once gravel in placed. Roofing for this section of the building is scheduled to start in two weeks. In the renovation portion of the building, the south re-roof is slated to begin this week. Auditorium demo and structure installation has moved into the third bay. Overhead ductwork, in-wall electrical, hydronic piping, chilled water, and all items under rough-in are complete up to pull wire. Second floor work will continue following re-roof work.
September 7, 2016 Construction Update
Earthwork and Site Utilities. Workers are tying in the sanitary sewer on the south side of Seaton East and work will be completed this week. Work will move to the east side of Seaton East next week.
Electrical Update. In the new building, crews are installing in-wall conduit in the basement. In Seaton East, all wires have been pulled from the new building to Seaton East and works are terminating the wires at the switchgear in addition to installing overhead conduits and lighting on level 2. In Mechanics Hall, level 1 in-wall rough-ins are complete and crews are on level 2 for similar installation.
Mechanical Update. Seaton East. Crews are installing heating tube piping on level 1 to stub up to 2nd floor and crews are installing chilled water lines. Additionally, installation of ductwork and VAV boxes on level 2 is proceeding.
In the new building, crews are installing roof drains in the Jewel. In Mechanics Hall, crews are finishing ductwork rough-in on level 1 and tying in the fans in the attic and hooking up the unit heaters.
Concrete. Concrete encased steel beams are formed and will be ready to pour later this week in the new building. The south half of level 3 penthouse elevated slab will be poured later this week.
Masonry. Crews completed CMU walls in the new Link yesterday and installing parapet CMU walls currently.
Structural Steel. In Seaton East, detailers are revising guardrail drawings and will begin fabrication. In the new building, the fall protection subcontractor is scheduled to be on site in mid-October and crews continue to complete steel for stone cladding support. In Mechanics Hall, crews are preparing to install the new stairway.
Carpentry. Crews will be installing level 1 decking near the south entrance of Seaton East one steel is complete. Crews are also completing window blocking in the auditorium.
Interiors. Framing continues in Seaton East.
July 13, 2016 Update
Demolition crews are awaiting asbestos removal prior to proceeding with demolition of the last Seaton East roof bay.
The north shoring wall is being removed as backfill is completed at the north end of the new building. The new building loading dock has been excavated.
Electrical crews are in the new building installing floor boxes and roughing in electrical for Area A, Level 3. Ductbank has been installed to the utility vault and is continuing north. In Seaton East, crews will begin installing floor boxes on Levels 1 and 2 in addition to working on in wall rough-in.
Mechanical hangers have been installed on Level 2 of Seaton East. An inspector was on site today testing several systems. Additionally, crews are installing piping in the new building basement restrooms and proceeding vertically following inspections. Roof drains in Area A have been installed.
In the new building, concrete crews continue to work on one-sided walls. Area 3 slab on grade was poured July 11th. Reinforcing for slab on metal deck for Level 3 will be on site July 15th and the Area A slab is tentatively scheduled to pour on July 20th.
Masonry crews are installing stone on Mechanics Hall infill. CMU installation continues in the Link to which the completion of was slightly delayed by rain. Masonry work on the north elevation is scheduled to start July 18th.
Weather has caused a slight delay in structural steel work, but will continue full force as soon as possible.
Carpentry crews are installing wood blocking in new walls and will continue with roof decking installation (pending asbestos abatement) in Seaton East.
Re-roof work on the Seaton East roof has been delayed due to weather and asbestos abatement in the final bay.
Metal stud walls are almost complete in Seaton East. Crews will begin the necessary framing for fire cabinets
Paint crews will being painting in Seaton East, Level 2 once the re-roof is complete.
July 6, 2016 Update
Crews are demolishing the final bay of the Seaton East re-roof this week and cutting the north shear wall of Seaton East for the Link connection. The remaining demolition component in Regnier Hall is for the auditorium, pending structural steel installation.
Excavation of the loading dock has begun and will progress north. Backfill of the north and east foundation walls will continue this week and the temporary shoring wall will be removed as the backfill progresses.
The slab on metal deck electrical rough-in is being completed for Level 3 in the Penthouse area (Area B, new building). Crews are installing the electrical manhole in the Seaton East alley and will continue installing electrical duct bank to the north. Electrical crews are also installing conduit runs on the 2nd floors of Seaton East and Regnier Hall.
Fin tube piping is being installed in Seaton East, Level 2. Plumbing crews have completed the layout of the slab on metal deck, Level 3 in addition to the completion of roof drains. In the basement of the new building, crews have completed the layout for the restroom risers and are beginning installation. Domestic water likes have been installed and tested for the Regnier Hall restrooms. Unit heaters and ductwork is progressing on the 2nd floor.
Concrete crews are forming the one-sided wall in the Area C basement. The west slab on grade in Area C and slab on metal deck for Area A, Level 3 is scheduled to be poured next week.
CMU has been installed in Regnier Hall west infill areas and shoring is installed to the roof trusses. Masonry crews will begin replacing stone this week. Installation of the CMU wall on the south side of the Link has begun. Crews will begin installing the north CMU walls of the new building once the backfill is completed to allow shoring to be erected.
Area C structural steel will be delivered July 12th and 13th and will be shipped so each truck can be unloaded and erected.
Carpentry crews continue to install roof decking and floor box and in-wall blocking in Seaton East.
Roofing crews will complete roofing of bays 3 and 4 this week.
In Seaton East, fireproofing is being completed around the elevator shaft. Interior crews are framing Seaton East, Level 2 and laying out the restroom walls on Level 1 of the new building.
June 29, 2016 Update
For the new building, crews are building the crane pad at the north side of Area C to allow steel erection of Area C. The crane will move on June 30th. Area C structural steel will begin the week of July 11th. Site utilities will progress north as the crane pad is removed and the loading dock excavated. Duct bank is progressing north from the Seaton East alley for the next two weeks. Steel erection of the Link is complete. Miscellaneous steel on the new building and deck and detailing of the Link are ongoing. The new building basement wall layout is complete.
In Seaton East, metal stud framing is being installed on Level 2 south of where the re-roof has been completed. New decking has been installed on all bays except for bay 6 (north most sawtooth on Seaton East). New roofing is being installed on bays 3-5 and bay 6 will be removed next week to allow for demolition of decking. Spray-applied fireproofing is being installed in Seaton East basement, crews will work up through Level 1 before moving to Regnier Hall. Once complete with Regnier Hall, crews will demobilize until the new building is ready for fireproofing.
In Regnier Hall, restroom water piping is being installed on Level 2 along with HVAC piping above ceilings on Level 2. Ductwork has been installed in the attic. Auditorium structural steel and existing roof demolition will begin following the erection of Area C steel due to site space constraints.
June 22, 2016 Update
In Seaton East, demolition continues on the roof and crews are removing windows on the first floor in Regnier Hall.
Earthwork crews are installing the crane pad for the north crane location.
Chilled water work has begun. Electrical in the alleyway will start June 24th.
Floor boxes on Level 2 of the new building are complete. Electrical crews are also installing ductbank in Regnier Hall. Crews backfilled the first half on June 21st with the second half being poured today. Additionally, crews are performing layout and in wall rough-in in Level 2 and installing temporary power.
Plumbing crews are installing hydronic piping on Level 2 in addition to drains and layouts in the new building. Seaton East vents were inspected through roof and chilled water piping is stubbed out.
Work continues on the Regnier Hall ductwork as insulation of the ductwork has begun.
In the new building, Level 2 of Area B slab on metal deck pour is scheduled to occur before June 24th. Slab on grade in Area C is anticipated for next week.
The first layer of CMU is being installed in the dust collector room in the new building. Masonry crews will also be setting 6 panels of precast on Saturday.
Bay 2 of the Seaton East re-roof was completed and nail base in installed on bay 3.
Framing crews are starting on Level 1, Seaton East tomorrow. Basement layouts in the new building are complete and crews anticipate being able to set studs this week.
Looking ahead at new building construction, Level 3 and roof structural steel have been installed and deck and detailing are being completed. Link structural steel will be completed June 27th. Area C structural steel is scheduled to begin June 29th, weather permitting. Area C foundation walls and under slab rough-in are currently being installed. Tangent pile wall waterproofing is being installed. Turning to Seaton East, roof work continues. In Regnier Hall, auditorium demolition and structural steel installation is planning to begin June 27th. Additionally, chilled water and electrical duct back in the west alley will begin June 28th once the Link steel is erected.
June 15, 2016 Update
Crews have completed demolition of the fourth bay of the Seaton East roof in addition to removing windows in Regnier Hall.
Foundation wall waterproofing will begin June 20th with the east and west walls of Area A. Once waterproofing is complete, drainage tile and backfill will proceed. Earthwork crews will also start the fabrication yard excavation at the end of the June, once the large crane has moved.
Precast wall panel installation will begin on June 25th in the new building.
Electrical crews are installing floor boxes in Area B, Level 2 in the new building. In Seaton East, crews are roughing in lightning protection in the roof and beginning in-wall rough-in for walls that are framed.
Plumbing crews are installing hydronic piping in the Regnier Hall attic. Inspections have been completed for the restroom risers in Seaton East and Regnier Hall.
Ductwork is being installed in the Regnier Hall attic by HVAC crews. Mechanical shaft ductwork has been ordered. Additionally, crews will set the last two roof curbs on Seaton East this week.
Concrete crews are forming the bard form finish walls in Area C and will pour slab on metal deck in Area B, Level 1 on June 16th.
Masonry crews are installing CMU in the Link.
Structural steel work continues trucks continue to deliver loads of steel, today’s delivery was from Area B, Level 3 and roof.
Carpentry crews are installing wood beams in Pierce Commons and framing around floor boxes on Level 2 of Seaton East, installing roof decking as areas are demolished, and installing door frames in areas that have been framed in Seaton East. In Regnier Hall, crews have concluded wood blocking and door frame work.
Roofing crews will begin roof removal on the last quarter of the Seaton East roof this week ahead of demolition and carpentry.
In Seaton East, basement level framing is complete as far as possible and crews are framing on Level 2 in areas where roofing has been completed. Framing in Regnier Hall is complete on both Levels 1 & 2 in the south portion. In the new building, crews will complete layout for the basement for top track installation.
Looking ahead at the new building schedule, Level 3 and roof structural steel is installed and deck and detailing is being completed. Structural steel for the Link will begin June 20th and will be completed June 27th. This will signal the crane to move to the north side of the site to allow underground utilities in the alley and fabrication yard area. Area C structural steel will begin June 29th, weather permitting and the foundation walls and under slab rough-in are currently being installed. Tangent pile wall waterproofing is being installed. Turning to Seaton East, roof decking has been installed through bay 3 and demolition is currently taking place in bay 4. Finally in Regnier Hall, auditorium demolition and structural steel installation is planning to begin June 27th. Additionally, chilled water and electrical duct back in the west alley will begin June 28th once the Link steel is erected. Alley demolition is to begin June 20th.
June 8, 2016 Update
In Seaton East, additional areas of abatement were identified. Demolition crews will begin the auditorium structure demolition in Regnier Hall to allow the new steel to be set when delivered.
Loading dock excavation in the new building will begin at the end of June once the crane has moved. Foundation wall waterproofing will begin next week with the east and west walls of Area A. Once waterproofing is complete, drainage tile and backfill may proceed.
West alley utility work is scheduled for the month of June. Electrical duct bank will be targeted for completion prior to moving the crane. The chilled water tie-in will be completed following the crane moving to the north side of the site.
Electrical crews will be installing floor boxes in Level 1, Area B through the rest of the week and begin Level 2, Area B the week of June 13th in the new building. In Seaton East, crews are installing home runs in the corridor of the basement under slab.
Plumbing crews have completed restroom risers in Regnier Hall and will be testing for inspections. Crews are also laying out the pump skid pad in the water service room and installing fin tube piping. HVAC crews are installing ductwork in both Regnier Hall and Seaton East.
In the new building, concrete crews will pour the first section of interior board formed wall today (June 8th). Crews will pour back the basement corridor later this week.
Masonry crews have completed the north infill except one stone and will complete the west gable infill this week. CMU has been placed in the north window openings in Seaton East.
Two trucks will be delivering new building structural steel today. Auditorium steel is approximately 3 weeks from delivery.
Carpentry crews will complete the second bay of Seaton East roof decking by the end of this week. In Regnier Hall, crews re installing in-wall blocking and will have all hollow metal frames set today.
Roofing crews will complete bay 1 of the new Seaton East roof by June 10th and will begin the demolition of bay 5 on June 13th ahead of new decking installation.
Seaton East Level 1 framing has been installed where possible. Crews will begin Level 2 framing later this week once the south portion of the roof is completed. Layout of the basement framing is complete and framing will begin June 9th. Framing crews in Mechanics Hall have completed Level 2 framing and will wrap-up Level 1 framing tomorrow.
Looking ahead in the new building, Area B structural steel Levels 1-2 will be completed June 9th to allow crews to move back to Area A, Level 3 and roof following slab on metal deck placement. Structural steel will progress north to Area B, Level 3 and roof before moving back to the Link Area on June 20th. The Link steel will be completed on June 27th and then the crane will move to the north side of the site allowing underground utilities in the alley and loading dock ramp area to begin. Jewel structural steel is scheduled to begin June 29th. Area C foundation walls and under slab rough-in are currently being installed. In Seaton East, re-roof began May 13th. Each day, decking is being installed to close up demolition of existing decking. Wall framing is being completed on Level 1 and the basement where flooring/slabs are complete. Slab on grade in the basement will be completed this week. Turning to Regnier Hall, MEP installation has begun in the restrooms and will begin attic HVAC installation.
June 1, 2016 Update
Demolition crews are schedule to begin demolition of the existing skylights and decking of the Seaton East roof. All demolition work has been completed in Regnier Hall until late June ahead of new structural steel for the auditorium arrives and is to be installed.
Once the Level 1 slab on metal deck is in place, the foundation walls may be backfilled and site utilities ran. Utility work, including chilled water tie-in and electrical duct bank, will begin at the end of June following the Link structural steel erection.
Electrical crews are laying out outlets on the board from wall in Area C. Rough-in for Area B, Level 1 slab on metal deck floor boxes will begin June 6th.
Mechanical crews are installing restroom risers and carriers in Mechanics Hall, followed by the same work in Seaton East. A hydrant will be installed in Area C foundation walls later this week, prior to the wall being poured. To be delivered to and installed include a heat exchanger pump skid, air handling units, and Regnier Hall attic ductwork.
Area A, Level 2 slab on metal deck is being placed today by concrete crews with the Area B elevated slab on grade scheduled to be poured on June 2nd. Crews will be ready to pour the board form wall in Area C on June 3rd, pending mock up approval.
Masonry crews continue with masonry infills at Mechanics Hall.
June 2nd will see level 3 structural steel in Area A following metal decking installation in Area B, Level 1. Steel supporting the stone veneer and curtainwall is to be installed prior to stone arrival in July. Auditorium steel in approximately 3 weeks from delivery.
Carpentry crews are replacing roof decking as the existing is demolished. Door frames for Mechanics Hall will be delivered on June 3rd
Weather has delayed Seaton East roofing crews.
Metal stud framing has started in Seaton East level 1 in addition to crews installing metal studs on level 1 of Regnier Hall.
Looking ahead, for Seaton New slab on metal deck in Area A, Level 2 is being poured June 1st. Structural steel will progress north to Area B, Level 3 and roof before moving back to the Link area on June 20th. Once the Link structural steel is complete, the crane will be moved to the north side of the site to allow underground utilities in the alley and loading dock ramp area to begin. Area C foundation walls and under slab rough-in are currently being installed. In Seaton East, re-roofing activities begin May 13th, starting on the south and work north. Decking is being installed each day to close up demolition of existing decking. Wall framing and MEP rough-in on Level 2 will being in 4 weeks. These tasks are dependant on the completion of the re-roof. Wall layout for Level 2 walls and all restroom walls are complete. Slab on grade in the basement is being poured as MEP under slab rough-in is completed. Corridor slab on grade is being demolished for electrical home runs. Finally, in Mechanics Hall, metal stud framing on level 2 in the south portion in 90% completed. MEP installation has begun in the restrooms and will begin attic HVAC installation.
May 25, 2016 Update
Demolition crews are focused on the re-roof in Seaton East.
Electrical crews will be finishing Level 2 floor boxes in Area A and will move to Level 1 deck to pull wire in the new building. Crews will then move to Area C to begin roughing in conduits. In Seaton East, crews have laid out floor boxes for Level 2.
Seaton East restroom carriers and risers have been installed and mechanical crews will be completing the same installation for Regnier Hall restrooms.
Concrete crews are pouring foundation walls in Area C and plan to pour Level 2 slab on metal deck in Area A on May 26th in the new building.
Masonry crews continue work on stone infills on Mechanics Hall at the gable of the auditorium as well as other infills. Additionally, they are finishing up infills on the north wall in Seaton East.
Steel for Level 3 and the roof of Area A will be delivered on May 27th.
Carpentry crews are installing additional sleepers on Level 2 and installing blocking and replacing decking on Level 1 per a recent ASI (architects supplemental information) in Seaton East.
Recent weather conditions has stalled progress on the Seaton East re-roof for the majority of the last week.
Interior crews are installing metal stud framing in Mechanics Hall, Level 2 and begun patching plaster in the auditorium.
Looking ahead in the new building, slab on metal deck in Area A, Level 2 will be poured May 26th. Area B structural steel on Levels 1-2 will be completed May 25th to allow crews to move to Area A, Level 3 and roof following slab on metal deck. Structural steel will progress north to Area B, Level 3 and roof before moving back to the Link area on June 20th. Once the Link structural steel is complete, the crane will be moved to the north side of the site allowing underground utilities in the alley and fabrication yard area excavation to begin. Area C foundation walls and under slab rough-in are currently being installed. In Seaton East, the re-roof began May 13th at the south end of the building. Wall framing and MEP rough-in to begin approximately 4 weeks after the roof begins, weather has continued to delay the re-roof. Wall layout for Level 2 walls and restroom walls on all levels are complete. Slab on grade in the studio spaces is complete. Last, but not least, Regnier Hall metal stud framing has begun on Level 2. Wall layout, framing and MEP rough-in are scheduled to begin on May 23rd.
May 18, 2016 Update
Demolition crews are removing shoring as the wood beams are being reattached in Seaton East. Crews will begin demolition of the existing skylights on the Seaton East roof on May 19th. In Mechanics Hall, crews are removing shoring as the new structural steel is installed in the south portion of the building.
In the new building, electrical crews will completed underground rough-in of Area C today and will begin rough-in of floor boxes on slab on metal deck, Level 2, of Area A on May 19th when the metal handrail is completed. All floor boxes have been installed in the basement slab in Seaton East and electrical crews are working with the roofers to get lightning protection roughed in.
Mechanical crews laid out drains in the slab on metal deck in Area A of the new building. Plumbing riser material has been staged in Seaton East and will be installed when fittings are delivered.
Crews are installing foundation walls in Area C of the new building in addition to forming the elevated slab on grade in Area B. Slab on metal deck on Level 2 of Area A is scheduled to pour May 24th.
Structural steel erection of Area B is being finished. Crews are welding the studs in Area A, Level 2 today.
In Seaton East, carpentry crews are completing the decking and plywood subfloor while in Mechanics Hall wood floor decking and plywood patching is occurring following structural steel work.
Roofing crews have removed the old roofing materials in the first valley of the Seaton East roof amidst the challenging weather. The new roofing material will be delivered at the end of this week.
Interior crews have laid out walls in Seaton East, Level 2 and the restrooms on all floors. Framing in Mechanics Hall Level 2 will begin on May 23rd.
Looking ahead at the new building schedule, slab on metal deck pours are schedule for Area 1, Level 1 and Level 2 on May 13th and May 25th, respectively. Area B Levels 1 & 2 will be completed on May 25th. Structural steel crews will move back to Area A to complete Level 3 and roof and progress north to Area B, Level 3 and roof before starting on the Link steel on June 13th. In Seaton East, Wall framing and MEP rough-in will begin in 4 weeks after the roof begins. Plumbing crews are installing risers and fixture carriers. Wood decking and subfloor to be completed once the temporary steam pipe is removed. Slab on grade in the basement will be poured at the completion of MEP under slab rough-in. Structural steel in Mechanics Hall will be completed by May 20th. Wall layout, framing and MEP rough-in will begin May 23rd. Auditorium structural steel installation will occur near June 13th.
May 11, 2016 Update
Demolition crews have three columns remaining in the south portion of Regnier Hall to be removed once new steel is installed.
Electrical crews are installing floor boxes and conduits in Area A of the new building on Level 1 ahead of a slab on metal deck pour scheduled for May 12th. In Seaton East, crews will run conduit home runs down the corridor of the basement once slab is removed.

Concrete pours for slab on metal deck for Area A Level 1 and Level 2 have been scheduled for May 13th and May 20th respectively. Area B remaining elevated slab pours will be completed next week, weather dependent. In addition to new building pours, concrete crews are pouring back areas in Seaton East as available.
Masonry crews continue with infills, primarily in Regnier Hall. Structural steel work continues.
Carpentry crews are installing decking at all remaining locations in Seaton East where steel modifications have been installed.
Roofing crews will be on site May 12th to begin demolition and installation of temporary roof covering.
Framing crews are on site this week performing layout activities for Level 2 walls and all restroom walls in Seaton East.
Looking ahead in the new building, two slab on metal deck pours will occur in Area A as previously mentioned. Area B structural steel, Levels 1-2 will be completed on May 20th to all crews to move back to Area A, Level 3 and roof. Seaton East re-roof activities are scheduled to begin May 16th. Slab on grade in the basement is begin poured as MEP under slab rough-in is completed. The slab on grade in the studio spaces will be completed in the next two weeks. Once the studio spaces are poured back, the corridor areas will be opened up for MEP home runs. In Regnier Hall, structural steel is currently being installed and scheduled to be completed by May 20th. MEP rough-in and wall framing is to begin May 23rd.
Wednesday, April 27, 2016 Update
In Seaton East, asbestos abatement of the existing skylights is complete. Crews are awaiting joist hangers to be delivered to finish remaining Seaton East beam installation. Electrical crews have completed floor box rough-in at the studio spaces in Seaton East basement slab. Under slab rough-ins at the elevator area are complete except for one panel which is being installed now. All underground plumbing in Seaton East basement has been inspected and approved. Tongue and groove decking has been installed on level 1 and crews will begin installing plywood.
In Mechanics Hall, The vestibule wall is down to about 2’ above level 1 slab and the wall will be compete today so slab may be poured back. All slab areas in Mechanics Hall has been poured except for the front portion of the auditorium which needs to be coordinated with floor boxes. Infill stone will be delivered Friday for masonry infills on Mechanics Hall. Structural steel for the south portion of Mechanics Hall will be delivered April 28th and 29th.
Crews will finishing installing LVC in Area B of Seaton New next week and begin backfilling foundation walls. Electrical crews will install the few remaining conduits in Area B now that the foundation wall formwork has been removed on the north walls and will then move to shallow underground installation in Area C next week. Northeast walls of Seaton New have been pour and the top of the buttress wall is still remaining due to weather. Concrete crews will move to Area C once the forms are removed in Area B this week. Structural steel for Area B will be delivered Friday, April 29th.
Looking ahead, slab on grade will be poured on April 28th ahead of the Friday Area B steel delivery. Area C wall work will begin May 2nd. Slab on metal deck in Area A Level 1 is scheduled for May 11th. Seaton East Level 2 rough-in and finishes are scheduled to begin at the end of May. Slab on grade pour back around floor boxes is tentatively scheduled for this Friday. Once Mechanics Hall structural steel is installed, remaining wooden joists, decking and plywood will be installed.
April 20, 2016 Update
In Regnier Hall, 14 beams have been removed and the remainder of building is being installed. New beams need to be installed and refastened before crews can move the scaffolding to demolish the remaining beams. Crews are installing shoring at the vestibule on the 2nd floor and will begin wall demolition immediately following. Masonry shoring was delivered to site Monday and is being installed for the new openings in Regnier Hall.
Abatement crews are removing the final north bay of skylights in Seaton East. Additional lead paint abatement is scheduled for the weekend to allow demolition of structural members related to the Seaton East re-roof. Electrical crews are installing floor boxes in the Seaton East basement. Underground plumbing rough-in is scheduled for tomorrow.
In new building, the first half of the buttress wall has been poured and the second half will pour Saturday. Structural steel installation in Area A continues.
Looking ahead in the new building schedule, slab on grade is scheduled to be poured on April 26th for Area B before the delivery of structural steel on April 27th, Area C walls will begin April 22nd, and Area A level 1 slab on metal deck is scheduled for May 6th. In Seaton East, level 2 rough-in and finishes to begin at the end of May and slab on grade pour back around floor boxes is tentatively scheduled for the end of April/beginning of May. Finally, shoring and remaining select demolition is to continue in Regnier Hall and a structural steel delivery is anticipated for next week.

Asbestos removal has begun for Seaton East existing skylights. Additionally, an existing pipe was revealed under the Seaton East slab which will require abatement. Lead abatement is scheduled to occur over the weekend to allow crews continue with structural steel work.
In the new building, structural steel was delivered to site April 4th and is in the process of being installed in Area A. While not all of the structural steel is on site for Area A, materials delivered this week came in 6 separate loads. Area A levels 1 and 2 are to be largely set by April 20th. April 21st, steel crews will begin work on Area B. Foundation wall activities continue. Next week, a smaller crane will be delivered to site. Area C foundation wall work is planned to begin April 25th. Slab on metal deck is anticipated to begin pouring in Area A the second week of May.
Following asbestos abatement, the existing portion of Seaton East roof will be replaced. Level 2 framing will be sequenced behind the re-roof. Slab on grade will be pour after floor box installation in the basement during the second week of May. April 15th will bring additional beam replacement work.
Mechanics Hall egress slab will be poured late this week or early next week. With an anticipated install timeline of 1 to 2 weeks, structural steel will follow remaining shoring work. Level 2 sheathing will make way for layout and frame wall work in May.
March 30, 2016 Update
Lead paint abatement began in select areas in Seaton East. Abatement is required in several areas where structural steel could not be bolted and must be welded. Demolition crews continue shoring work in both Seaton East and Regnier Hall. Demolition crews are also removing windows in Regnier Hall for field measurements and verification of existing conditions.
Shallow underground electrical work is scheduled to begin in Area B on April 4th. Crews are cutting and removing concrete in Seaton East for floor boxes and electrical feeds. Mechanical crews have installed sleeves for foundation walls in Area B.
Concrete crews are pouring grade beams in Area C and completing a pour on grid line K to complete Area A concrete (near Seaton East) prior to structural steel arrival on April 4th. Necessary concrete work has also been poured in the elevator pit in Seaton East.
Fabrication for skylights frames will begin tomorrow (March 31st). Frames will be delivered in mid-April, prior to installation in Seaton East. Structural steel erection is scheduled to begin April 4th.
Carpentry crews have completed all decking on level 2 in Seaton East (except for one bay) and 50% of level 2 is complete with sheathing.
Looking ahead, slab on grade for Area B is tentatively scheduled for April 14th. Structural steel in Area B will follow erection of Area A. Area C walls will begin in late April. In Seaton East, demolition work for the skylights is scheduled for April 1st. Level 2 rough-in finishes will tentatively begin on April 25th. Slab pour in Mechanics Hall corridor will be scheduled in the next week. Rough-in and finishes will be installed following structural steel and wood framing.
March 28, 2016 Special Update
The first slab on grade (SOG) pour was completed for the new building in Area A, which is 10,500 square feet. This pour required 250 yards of concrete.
March 16, 2016 Update
Demolition crews have removed the electrical room walls and are cutting beam pockets for structural steel in Seaton East.
Upon the completion of structural steel work in the elevator area of Seaton East, crews will cut slab on grade to accommodate the new restrooms. This work is anticipated for March 22nd.
Electrical crews are working on deep underground in the Link area and will begin working on shallow underground in Area B next week.
Mechanical crews are installing sleeves and underground plumbing in Seaton New. All drains have been installed in Area A of the new building.
Carpentry crews are installing beams on the north half of the 2nd floor and ledger board to support the floor decking in Seaton East. 3x6 tongue and groove decking for the Seaton East re-roof is scheduled to be delivered next week for fire treatment with an estimated delivery date to site of March 11th.
Looking ahead at the project schedule, slab on grade for area A is anticipated for next week and in Area B prior to steel being delivered for Area B. Structural steel for Area A will begin April 4th.
March 9, 2016
In Seaton New, grade beams and caps are complete in Area A. Foundation wall pours 1-3 of 22 are complete with foundation wall pour 4 scheduled for Saturday. Next week concrete crews move to the northwest corner to continue work. Area A underground rough-in will be complete ahead of the March 15th slab on grade pour. Wall pours are scheduled to continue through the month of April.
In Seaton East, structural steel installation continues in the elevator area. Select Doug Fir timbers have arrived and are being installed along with joist hangers. Tongue and groove decking is being installed in the corridor area of Level 2. Plywood sheeting will be installed beginning at Level 2 and will work to Level 1. Slab on grade removal is also set to begin in the near future for the east half of the basement.
In Mechanics Hall, after the approval of a pending PR (proposal request), crews will begin structural steel updates and re-roof. Crews will also pour pad footings for pilasters in the central portion of Mechanics Hall.
March 2, 2016
Demolition crews are cutting additional beam pockets and preparing shoring for Mechanics Hall ahead of structural steel.
Storm piping has been installed in the new building areas and connected to the sump pump pit. Testing will be completed once the slab on grade is installed.
Shotcrete is scheduled in be installed on the tangent pile wall today. Crews estimate 30-40 yards of concrete will be required for the shotcrete process.
Deep underground electrical work in complete in Area A with shallow underground work to start at the end of this week following LVC restoration after grade beam pours. Crews are currently installing deep underground electrical in Area B. The electrical room rough-in in this area will be completed when concrete crews are in the area.
Mechanical crews have installed underground plumbing in the northeast corner of Seaton East. Mechanical underground work is also complete in the auditorium.
Grade beams in the Link and foundation wall pour #1 is complete. Masons have quantified salvaged stone from demolition and after coordination, will begin necessary infill work. Today, the majority of the Seaton East elevator area structural steel is expected. New wood beams and hangers were delivered for Seaton East earlier this week, with tongue-and-groove decking for Seaton East to be delivered on Friday.
Looking ahead, in Area A slab on grade is scheduled for March 11th with structural steel beginning on March 17th. Slab on grade for Area B is anticipated to occur March 24th. Structural steel for the Seaton East elevator area will begin this week with a mid-March start date anticipated for skylight work. Mid- to late-March will bring new structural steel for the Regnier Hall auditorium.

Seaton New. Excavation and LVC installation was completed last week in the Jewel area. A revision to the temporary shoring wall was completed February 25th. Electrical and mechanical crews are installing sleeves in the foundations of Area A. Electrical crews are also installing deep underground electrical in Area A. Auger cast pile crews will demobilize Friday, February 26th as this work and testing are complete. Grade beam and pile cap foundations are currently being installed in Area A and progressing north. Forms for foundation walls have been delivered and will be set next week and progress north. The slab on grade in Area A will be poured 3/10/16, and the structural steel will begin on 3/17/16. The sequence of structural steel will be Area A levels 1-2, Area B levels 1-2, Area A levels 3-roof, Area B levels 3-roof, the Link area, and finish with the Jewel.
Seaton East. Structural steel will begin next week in the elevator area and the carpentry structure will begin on Level 2. Crews have run into existing unknown foundations under the slab of Seaton East while excavating for underground plumbing.
Mechanics Hall. The slab on grade in the Auditorium was placed last week, and crews will progress with structural steel in mid-March pending structural steel submittals. The south half of Mechanics will have shoring installed next week to allow foundations to be installed. Crews installed drains in the cored holes of the tangent pile wall piers. Mass excavation near the tangent pile wall is nearing completion. Excavation will continue on Friday after tieback tensioning of the tangent pile wall is complete. Crews will clean the piers and install shotcrete beginning February 22nd.
Excavation is underway in the basement of Seaton east to install deep underground plumbing. Slab removal and replacement will begin in the near future for placement of floor boxes.
Electrical crews are installing sleeves in the grand beams of Seaton New and prefabricating underground conduit banks for installation next week.
Floor drains and piping are ready for the slab on grade pour on Friday, February 19th in the auditorium.
Auger cast piles have completed in the new building areas except for the jewel. This work will begin following excavation of this area.
Foundation walls for the area of the new building closest to Seaton East will begin February 22nd with structural steel to follow on March 17th.

Demolition crews are removing flooring in Mechanics Hall for column foundations and installing shoring for structure removal in addition to demolished the shear wall below grade for the column foundations near the elevator area in Seaton East and removing structural flooring on level 1 of Seaton East.
Crews have completed the necessary pad in preparation for crane delivery. Crane was delivered on February 9th. Excavation on the jewel area begin on Monday night (2-15-16) and will be completed (2-19-16). LVC installation will occur in this area February 23-24th for auger cast piles to begin.
The grade beam for the tangent pile wall was poured on February 9th and crews anticipate removing the forms tomorrow. Testing on cylinders is occurring and once strength is up to 4,000, tensioning will begin on the tiebacks. The work will start at the north end of the tangent pile wall and move south to allow for excavation.
Electrical crews are performing layouts in Seaton New for rough-in with grade beams.
Concrete cuts have been completed in Seaton East for underground. Excavation and concrete removal is scheduled for Friday.
Grade beams are being poured in the Regnier Hall Auditorium on Friday and slab on grade will be poured the following Friday along with south Regnier Hall column foundations. Grade beams will be poured for Seaton New on Thursday.
Augers cast piles (on the west half of) the new building area will conclude on February 16th. and resume in the Jewel after LVC on the 24th.
Looking ahead, foundation wall is the part of the new building closest to Seaton East will begin February 22nd with structural steel anticipated to begin March 17th. Seaton East is ready for wood framing.

February 4, 2016 - Special Notes
We have received several questions from site observers about the concrete structure that is being installed near the west temporary shoring wall. This is the is a concrete vault pump station as part of the building’s lower level storm water plan. The pump station wet well will collect storm water from connected drains from the north and east in addition to the fabrication lab drive area and push water west into the existing campus storm water system. Yet to be installed is the emergency overflow/storage tank. This tank will be installed just to the south of the pump station. Click here for the PDF of the pump station diagram.

Floor demolition continues in Regnier Hall. All of the finish floor has been removed from the second floor and 95% of the 1st floor is down to the subfloor. Seaton East 2nd floor structural floor removal has been completed. While floor demolition continues on the first floor, the basement is at 100% on finishes removal. The shear walls in the elevator area are at 100% complete and crews will be cutting foundation walls below slab today.
Excavation and LVC installation in the Jewel area is scheduled to begin February 15th and anticipated to take one week. Crews are installing crane pads on the west site of the site as the crane is scheduled to delivered on February 10th. Storm sewer piping is being installed and the permanent pump station is being set today on the west side of the site.
Tiebacks on the tangent pile wall are scheduled to finish today. Testing will begin soon along with the installation of the formwork for the grade beam.
Crews have finished the underground rough-in of electrical in the auditorium. Mechanical has also finished underground rough-in of this area as well as completed necessary pressure tests.
Mechanical crews will saw cut the slab in Seaton East for underground plumbing and will have sleeves installed in the new building grade beams next week as they are installed.
Crews are infilling the third steam tunnel starting today and anticipate to complete this work by Friday.
Seaton East 2nd Floor structural steel will be delivered this week.
Auger cast pile crews are finishing up 24” piles and beginning 16” piles today.
Grade beams and footings are scheduled to begin on February 9th in the new building area closest to Seaton East.
January 20, 2016
Demolition crews encountered asbestos floor tile in a small section of the Seaton East basement. JEDunn coordinated with the campus project contact and the on-call abatement company is scheduled to begin work to remove necessary floor tile.
All tangent pile walls piers are in place for the permanent shoring wall at Mechanics. Tiebacks began January 19, 21016 and crews have completed 4. After grade beams are added to the tangent pile wall, necessary stress tests will be performed and excavation will begin. Excavation will allow structure to be installed for Weigel library. The new library floor will be 12’ below the floor of Regnier Hall.
Mass excavation has caught up to the temporary shoring wall which is in the process of being stressed. Night excavation crews are averaging 150 load of soil per night. LVC (Low Volume Change in the form of crushed concrete, recycled from other work on campus, is being used to stabilize the building pad) is complete in the south portion of the addition area. Whalers have been installed on the temporary shoring wall to allow the excavation of the north half of the addition. In the same area, lagging installation will be followed by LVC the week of January 25th. LVC will follow the excavation of the tangent pile wall in the jewel area February 5th or later. Items in the excavation area that remain are unforeseen foundations around the steam tunnel area and preparation of the existing steam tunnel opening is to be incorporated into new construction. Excavation of the south courtyard is scheduled to begin February 1st and will be used for access to the site as well as staging area for material during construction. The north courtyard will be used as the primary site access during construction.
1 test pile and 6 reaction piles were placed in the excavated area adjacent to Seaton East. These Auger Cast Piles will provide bearing for the foundation of the new structure. After proper cure (7 days) the test pile will be tested (potentially to failure). Upon successful completion of testing, production piles will begin. Once pile installation has been underway for 6 days, grade beams will be installed from the south to the north.
Structural steel is anticipated to begin for the addition on March 17th. Crews will be installing the steel next to Seaton East and will work north to the end of the addition and then east towards Regnier Hall.
In Seaton East, shoring work has begun in the elevator area preparing for shear wall demolition. New structural steel will be on site next week for installation on the second floor. Finishes and CMU wall removal continue in the basement which is at 80% on finishes removal. Second floor structural floor demolition is at 70% complete while finish flooring demolition on the first floor is at 60% complete with structural flooring demolition at 35% complete. All shear wall openings are cut which will be the new corridor for Seaton East while crews are infilling existing shear wall openings.
Work in Regnier Hall is concentrated on the auditorium. All but one spread footings are in and crews are excavating the area for the last spread footing today. Grade beams will be installed on top of the footings and concrete slab will follow. After select demolition of the existing roof over the new auditorium space, structural steel will be inserted into the auditorium with the complete demo of the roof and re-roof of the space occurring in phases. Structural steel is being adhered to the existing masonry walls via an epoxy method. Four connections have been completed and have passed a 1,000 lb. stress test. Work was halted Monday as outside temperatures dropped below manufacturer recommendations.
As of January 20, 2016, the project has experienced 8 weather days. (On Monday, equipment did not operate due to cold temperatures which primarily affected tieback work on the tangent pile wall.)
January 13, 2016
Demolition of finishes is complete on the first and second floors in Seaton East with structural floor demolition at 35% and 40% respectively. The basement of Seaton East is at 40% of finishes removal. The elevator area in Seaton East (previously the east most portion of the computer lab) has seen the removal of the concrete slab. The remaining steel beam and cleanup is scheduled for this week. Demolition crews will focus on the second floor and elevator areas to prepare for new structural steel.
Excavation to conclude this week in the new building area. All tiebacks to the temporary shoring wall have been installed and crews expect to demobilize on Saturday. The excavation contractor encountered an unforeseen concrete foundation below the old Seaton Court transformer which has been removed. (thought by some on campus to be the foundation for the old foundry stack) Additionally, the same contractor discovered a stone foundation on the east side of the old college shop area which was removed as well.
71 piers have been completed as part of the tangent pile wall with tiebacks scheduled to begin January 18th. Excavation of the new library area and jewel is estimated to begin February 1st.
Electrical crews are roughing in service to Mechanics Hall, specifically in the new auditorium area. (This crew is also making the final adjustments to the construction camera with the intent to go live later this week.)
Mechanical crews will be installing sleeves in Mechanics Hall grade beams.
Crews are pouring spread footings today in the Mechanics Hall auditorium. Installation of temporary shoring for the east (existing)column of the auditorium will occur in order to install the last spread footing. Anchor bolts will be delivered next week so the grade beams maybe poured in the auditorium.
As of 1/13/2016 the project has experienced 7 weather days. (Last Thursday and Friday, site activities were rained out.)
January 6, 2016
The remaining piece of the Link was demolished this week. Mass demolition will wrap up this week with the removal of the CMU stair tower on the north end of Seaton East. Auger cast piles are scheduled to begin January 19th.
Level 2 in Seaton East remaining structural floor demolition will follow the elevator area demolition. Slab on grade demolition in Seaton East is scheduled for January 9th-16th pending approval of a previously submitted PR.
Excavation is slated to begin on January 11th. Some of this work is planned during night shifts due to site constraints.
Construction crews are monitoring adjacent structures to ensure there are no adverse impacts on surrounding buildings while drilling continues on site. This activity will continue until backfilling of the tangent pile wall has been completed.
Tangent pile wall tension testing was successful and crews continue drilling.
Investigation continues into structural bolted connections in areas where lead paint is present.
Masonry crews have determined that new stone will be required for infill purposes in addition to salvaged quantities. Steam tunnel vault walls have been installed at two of the three locations. The remaining wall installation will occur once excavation exposes the tunnel opening. Repair options are being priced for cracked lintel on the north side of Mechanics Hall.
Construction teams has begun planning for a stand-alone mock-up of the northeast corner of the new building.
As of 1/6/2016 the project has experienced 5 rain days.
December 30, 2015
Mass demolition in Seaton East and the Mechanics Hall is complete and select demolition continues. Mass demolition in construction area 3 (new building zone) is still underway. Steam relocation began December 19th (Note: Steam relocation concluded 12/23) allowing for appropriate demolition to make way for flowable fill to be inserted into the sub-terrain ash pits (Note: Found an additional ash pit to the north of known ash pit). Area 3 demolition anticipated to be completed January 11th to allow for auger cast piles to begin on January 19th.
Select demolition on all levels in Seaton East is in process. This week, crews are removing existing masonry walls that surrounded Seaton 111-112 to make way for the elevator as well as existing concrete slab found on the west side of Seaton 111-112. This is what is causing the noise levels we have been experiencing this week. First floor select demolition is 30% complete as of December 30th. Structural demolition on the 2nd floor has started.
There is a section of flooring just north of 106C Seaton Hall where the subfloor is spliced and not bearing on any beams. While no serious injuries occurred, two workers did put a foot through two different areas.
Tangent pile wall has had 41 piers drilled as of December 30th. Terracon has been sending drilling logs and concrete break results. Tieback installation will begin at the first of the year and the grade beam will follow tieback installation.
Temporary shoring wall has encountered unforeseen conditions. Tieback auger hit obstacles at 45’ on a 60’ tieback. Tieback tension testing occurred December 30th at the 45’ depth for engineer to review and provide direction.
Pre-installs completed include earthwork and temporary shoring in addition to the tangent pile wall. Pre-installs that will occur in January include concrete, structural steel and auger cast piles.
Design and construction teams are also working diligently on issues with the existing structure in the basement in Seaton East and ceiling heights in that area. Ceilings were originally planned as 8’2” and will likely need to be reduced. Additional laser scans of renovation areas have been completed and results should be received soon and will be incorporated into the BIM model.
The construction camera has been installed on top of Holtz Hall. JEDunn is coordinating with K-State for finishing electrical and networking.
