Non-Baccalaureate Students
Computer/Peripherals: Purchase before entering landscape architecture program.
Tablet: Purchase prior to LAR 430 summer studio between 2nd and 3rd year.

Post-Baccalaureate Students
Computer/Peripherals: Purchase before entering landscape architecture program.
Tablet: Purchase prior to LAR 430 summer studio between 1st and 2nd year.

Students begin using a tablet during the summer between 2nd and 3rd year.
It is important that the tablet meet the following minimum specifications and have a touch sensor enabling pressure sensitive pen or pencil, keyboard and camera. As an alternative to purchase for summer studio, students may check out a department-owned tablet for use during the summer. Applications required for class are available at no cost and a data plan is not required.


PC

Professional grade workstations, these systems are highly customizable with many options beyond our recommendation. Please speak with a representative through the K-State Union Computer Store for available upgrades including possible Dell promotions and other discounts.

Warranty

4 year on-site warranty is highly recommended.
The Dell systems include a substantial discount for this warranty.

Desktops have a built in Ethernet.

  • External hard drive. Capacity should exceed the internal hard drive capacity of the computer, used for backups and archiving.

Available FREE through K-State Office 365 Webmail.

Adobe Creative Cloud
Software may be purchased from the K-State Union Computer Store at academic discounts.

Autodesk applications offered via the Autodesk Education Community.
Available FREE at autodesk.com
It is recommended to wait until you have received the syllabus from your instructor before downloading and installing Autodesk applications.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) 
Available FREE under the K-State ESRI Educational Site License. See the ESRI Products, Use, and Sources summary sheet for details concerning desktop and online software options and sources/procedures.

SketchUp Studio for Students
Software may be purchased online at sketchup.com
$55 per year

Additional software may be specified in your instructor’s course syllabus.

Recommended options

Insurance
Protect your investment from accidental damage or theft. Check with your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance and verify coverage, recommend purchase of a separate policy for your equipment if necessary.
