Summer Design Experience

We’ve moved APDesign’s summer experience for high school students onlineJoin us for a three-day introduction to the professions of architecture, interior architecture and industrial design, landscape architecture, and regional and community planning through design thinking, and plenty of interaction with APDesign faculty and students! 

The online experience will include a virtual tour of our state-of-the-art building, a live panel with current APDesign students, and guided activities with our award-winning faculty.

Scholarships

For 2020, APDesign Summer Design Experience at Kansas State University will offer a limited number of scholarships to students from the Kansas City Metro area who demonstrate financial need.  This scholarship is subject to availability of funds. For priority consideration, complete the scholarship application here by Friday June 19, 2020Scholarship recipients will be notified by July 1, 2020.

Dean DeNobleThe online Summer Design Experience will be packed with fun learning and design thinking exercises, demonstrating and utilizing many of the communication and design processes that are so much a part of the collaborative design world. Design matters! 

 

Goals and Expectations


During the daily online sessions, you will have the chance to meet APDesign faculty, current students, and fellow members of the Summer Design Experience. By registering, you agree to abide by the K-State Principles of Community. Additional expectations are outlined in the APDesign Consent and Waiver Release form, which will be provided to all parents/guardians of registrants via email.

Frequently Asked Questions about Summer Design Experience


What if I can't attend all three days of Summer Design Experience online or need to miss one of the daily sessions?

  • The cost to attend won't change, regardless of whether you attend each day. If you think you need to miss a session or a day, please note this when your parent/guardian completes the APDesign Consent and Waiver form, which will be sent via email.

What will I need to have on hand at home to participate in the Summer Design Experience?

  • Smartphone, tablet, or computer capable of Zoom sessions, reading PDFs, taking pictures, and uploading creative products
  • Soft pencils, felt pens, and colored pencils or markers
  • Paper
  • Tape and scissors
  • Recycled material for building rough models (cereal boxes and other lightweight cardboard)
