Seaton Central
Renovation

Seaton Central Renovation
DREAM BIG WITH US:

Seaton Hall is located across from the Student Union and sits in the heart of campus. As K-State progresses toward its 2030 goals, Seaton Central can help propel the plan forward by exemplifying excellent spaces that support APDesign and K-State as a whole. With the K-State Master Plan calling for a new plaza connection between Ahearn and Anderson Hall, Seaton Central will be an even more central part of campus. As the first academic building from the union, the renovation will be the front porch to APDesign and the campus.
We are tasked with raising $3 million to support the Seaton Central Renovation along with Kansas Campus Restoration Act funding of $3.9 million.

SEATON CENTRAL RENOVATION
SEATON HALL IS MORE THAN A BUILDING. For APDesign students, it has been a launchpad where ideas are sketched late at night, where friendships are forged and where futures are built.
Today we have an opportunity — and an urgent need — to breathe new life into the first floor of Seaton Central.
I invite you to join us in creating the future of the College of Architecture, Planning and Design. Together, we can ensure that Seaton continues to inspire and equip generations of Wildcats to come.
Our challenge: Working in the past
The College of Architecture, Planning and Design is thriving. Enrollment has grown nearly 33% in the past five years, and our retention rates are 7–8% above the university average. Students want to be here and stay here.
The only downside of our world-class reputation is, ironically, space. We are educating more than 1,000 students in a facility designed for 800. In addition to stretching the facilities’ capacity, students, faculty, alumni and other college visitors have noted the:
- Reduced access to natural light
- Dim and dated lighting
- Inadequate temperature control
- Lack of flexibility and access in classrooms
Our opportunity: Designing the future
The renovated Seaton Central will feature a dynamic and welcoming “front porch” for the college that reflects our reputation now and into the future.
With our steady growth and the addition of the interior design program to the college, this project will bring all our programs under one roof, mirroring our commitment to inclusive, collaborative and interdisciplinary design.
More than 15,000 sf on the first floor and basement will be brought up to modern standards, including:

CLASSROOM 0057, the hub of our large lecture courses and one of the most-used general classrooms on the campus.
This next-generation learning environment will benefit all students across the university.
THE NEW SEATON CENTRAL ENTRY will celebrate our signature programs and address critical deferred maintenance and accessibility issues.
In addition to a new ramp and stairs, the new design will reopen historic windows.
Proposed Renovation
- Applied Learning Hub - Academic space is on axis with the entrance from the Union, while social space connects East Seaton to West Seaton.
- Space Planning - Spaces such as Design Labs and classrooms support students and faculty with the optimal space for them to learn and teach at their best.
