APDPro Mentor Program
The mission of the APDPro Mentor Program is to provide students in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design (APDesign) with meaningful opportunities to learn from skilled and experienced professionals in the fields of design, planning, and related disciplines. Through one-on-one mentorship, students gain valuable insight into professional practice, workplace culture, and career development. Mentors serve as guides and role models, helping students navigate the transition from academic learning to professional engagement while offering encouragement, feedback, and perspective drawn from their own experiences.
Becoming an APDPro Mentor allows alumni and professionals to make a lasting impact on the next generation of designers and planners. Mentors have the opportunity to share their expertise, strengthen their connection to Kansas State University, and play an active role in shaping future leaders in the built environment professions. The program also fosters reciprocal learning—many mentors find themselves inspired by their mentees’ creativity, curiosity, and fresh approaches to design thinking.
Students participating in the program are second- through fifth-year students who are active in APDPro, the college’s professional development program. Their commitment to growth and readiness for professional engagement ensures that each mentorship is both purposeful and rewarding for students and mentors alike.
WildcatLink Platform
Recently, the APDPro Mentor Program transitioned to a new web-based platform, WildcatLink, which also hosts mentoring programs across campus. Features of this new platform include improving communication between mentor/mentee pairs via specific goals, a discussion board and more resources, as well as the opportunity to network with other alumni.
In addition to being in a formal mentoring relationship, APDPro Mentors can join the WildcatLink community to provide advice to any student on the platform via "Flash Mentoring" (one-time interaction via student's request).
