K-State Architecture Student Named Finalist in International Architizer Drawing Competition

architizerMANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State University’s College of Architecture, Planning & Design (APDesign) proudly announces that Vance Lor, a fifth-year student in the Architecture program, has been named a finalist in the 2025 Architizer Drawing Competition.

Over the summer, Associate Professor of architecture and director of the Environmental Design Program, Otto Chanyakorn, encouraged Lor to submit one of his architectural drawings to the international competition hosted by Architizer, a globally recognized online platform celebrating design excellence.

Lor’s work was selected as a finalist in the Freehand Drawing Sketch category—one of the competition’s most expressive and competitive divisions. The Architizer Drawing Competition recognizes outstanding representations of architectural ideas and spatial thinking through both analog and digital media, highlighting the power of drawing as a creative and conceptual tool in the field.

“Professor Chanyakorn’s encouragement and support gave me the confidence to share my work beyond the studio,” said Lor. “It’s rewarding to see how hand drawing still resonates in a digital age—reminding us that architecture begins with the unique imagination that is innate to us all, drawn on to paper.” Lor’s description of the work is derived from his Italian studies abroad in Orvieto, Italy. He describes the Duomo of Orvieto, a place where “people from all around the world are met in awe by the grandeur of the Duomo, pictures of the façade are encouraged, documentation and study are mandatory”.

Architizer’s Vision Awards honor designers whose drawings and visualizations communicate innovation, emotion, and clarity. Lor’s recognition places him among emerging designers from around the world who are pushing the boundaries of architectural representation.
