Message from the Department Head
Last week we received our official letter from the CIDA Board of Directors announcing our reaccreditation for a six year period of time (the longest allowable). Again, I extend a hearty thank you to all of our students, faculty, staff, and administration who made the visit such a success!
During this week and next we have 3 candidates visiting for our digital focus faculty position. We worded part of the position description as "with a passion for the power of digital means to influence and communicate design and creative endeavors" and the search committee has narrowed the field to three candidates. The visit schedules include time in various studios in addition to public presentations and meetings with faculty and students. The first candidate is here today, with a presentation from 9:30-10:30 and a student meeting from 11:00-11:30. Friday, April 5, the second candidate will give a presentation from 2:15-3:15 and meet with students from 3:15-3:45. The third candidate visits on Monday, April 8 and gives a presentation from 2:00-3:00, and meets with students on Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:15. All presentations and student meetings occur in the McGraw Room. Please plan to be active participants in this important process!

Kudos
Katrina Lewis participated in Thailand as a Rotary Peace Fellow last summer and is still in the press.
Two IAPD students were selected to participate in the Undergraduate Research Forum last week. Josef Lang and Aaron Bisch each presented the results of their studio team research and design projects associated with our grant from Herman Miller. Each did a excellent job of representing the sort of research involved in design projects and the process of implementing that research in design decisions. Excellent representatives of IAPD, congratulations Josef and Aaron!
The fifth-year IAPD students will be featuring their furniture designs at Deadleaf Furniture in Kansas City from 6-9 p.m. this Friday, April 5. The show will be part of Kansas City’s First Fridays in the Crossroads District. Deadleaf Furniture is located at 1739 Walnut Street in Kansas City, Missouri. Spread the word to colleagues, alumni, and others!
