Message from the Department Head
Thanksgiving is just around the corner and I hope you have an opportunity to refresh yourself, enjoy the company of family and friends, catch up, and come back to Manhattan with a contagious energy and desire to finish the semester strong! Be sure to put any valuables in a locked area (or take them with you) over this week-long break.

News and Events
The annual Wine and Cheese event took place on Friday, November 15th. This annual event gave students a chance to dress up and let their hair down. This successful event is sponsored by IAPD 4th year students in honor of the 5th year class. This year’s event hosted a good number of students as well as many of our faculty and staff.
Assistant Professor Dustin Headley just returned from presenting his paper “Integration of Parametric Thinking + Design within Undergraduate Design Studios” at the 47th International Conference of the Architectural Science Association (ANZAScA) where he was awarded runner-up for Best Presentation! Full papers are blind-reviewed for presentation at the conference and publication in the conference proceedings.
Professor Ryadi Adityavarman's second year studio's work (Artist's Loft) is on display outside Seaton 203.
Assistant Professor David Richter-O'Connell was recently recognized by the Kansas State Chapter of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society as a faculty member who goes above and beyond at Kansas State University. Professor Richter-O'Connell's unwavering dedication to students, his support of student and faculty success, and his passion for Kansas State University were each factors in the selection.
Under the direction of Associate Professor Vibha Jani and Assistant Professor Dustin Headley, first year students collaboratively designed and installed an exhibit in the Chang Gallery titled Spatial Synergy. The wall panels of this experimental exhibit were inspired by the study of South Asian art, architecture, and dance.Check out this competition for disaster relief. Submission deadline is January 26th. Potential for $2,000 prize. Learn more here.
Alex Marschman's entry to the IIDA Sustainable Student Design competition is up on the website for voting - please see the website where you can vote (beginning November 22) for People's Choice Award.
APDesign Photography Competition
The Thomas A. Tyler and Answers Inc. Architectural and Environmental Student Photography Competition is here! Entries are due this Friday by 5 pm. Entries will be featured in the Chang Gallery from December 2nd to January 19th.
New Equipment
The Thermoformer has arrived as is located near the large bed CNC Router in the College Shop. Professors David Richter-O'Connell, Nathan Howe, and Chris Fein along with Paul Morrison will be the most familiar with the machine initially.
