Graphic design can seem like a foreign language, but we'll tackle it in a simple and straight forward way tonight at Spark!Come learn about color theory, making your prints look as beautiful as your digital files, typography, and simple steps to clear, beautiful graphics. We couldn't be more excited about this week! We'll meet at 7:30 pm at APDesign West. (Following Kendall's presentation) Remember, every time you attend, we'll enter your name in a drawing for a Moleskine and some of our favorite sketching pens. |
We need to have an insurance card on file for all IAPD students. Due to the nature of our program, the tools used for your projects, and the field trips we take, insurance cards are required. Please bring yours in to the office in Seaton 251 so we can put a copy in your file. Let's get this done! |
IAPD Student Council (from Erin Heiden)I hope you all are as excited as I am about this upcoming year. I think we have a great group and I look forward to seeing what we will accomplish. Our first meeting will be at APD West in the IA classroom (were we had the information meeting at.) It will start at6:45 on Thursday Sept. 17th. If any previous officers have their binders please bring them so we can pass them onto the next officer.
To help with planning meetings for the future I copied the link to a survey. Please check any times that you are available to meet. Again we meet twice a month and the meetings are usually an hour.
IIDA Color + Couture - Thanks to all who came to the IIDA and Color + Couture kickoff meeting last week. Color + Couture is an event sponsored by IIDA where students participate in creating a couture gown out of various interior finishes. The runway show is scheduled for October 23rd at the Starlight Theater in KC. More information will be released on how to purchase tickets as the event gets closer. Design meetings for Color + Couture are starting up this week, September 15th and September 17th at 8:00 pm at APD West. The meetings will continue to be every Tuesday and Thursday, same time and place, until field trip week. Everyone is encouraged to come to one or all the meetings! |
Learn about signage and wayfinding with Asst Prof Donna Fullmer, and then participate in a design charrette for the WWI Museum & Memorial signage. Signage includes vehicular, pedestrian, maps, interior and exterior. MUST ATTEND SEMINAR TO GO TO DESIGN CHARRETTE! Seminar is 9/17 at 6 pm and the Design Charrette is 9/20, 1-4 pm. Both of these events will be at APD West, Room 119. Both events will fulfill a Special Topic Event requirement. |

DESIGN CHARRETTE FOR WOUNDED WARRIORS' REHABILITATION AND FARM TRAINING CENTER DESIGN |
APDesign Students from all disciplines are invited to participate in a design charrette to develop a master plan for a new farm training and healing center to serve the wounded soldiers and their family. This center is envisioned by SAVE (Soldier Agriculture Vocational Education) organization, and theywould like to develop a facilityto assist the wounded soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan war. They hope to build this center in Manhattan, Kansas. This farm training and healing center will serve Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and severely injured amputees. The All-University Career Fair will be in Bramlage Coliseum, September 22 and 23 from 11 am - 4 pm. There will be 900+ company representatives from 300+ employers over these two days. For a list of employers attending check the website. |

Pave has announced the availability of four scholarships. They are targeted towards undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Industrial Design and Architecture with an emphasis on retail. Check them out! Also, eVolo Magazine has announced a furniture design competition. This is an ideas competition and designers may submit pieces in production, prototypes, and/or concepts.
