PENNY WARS
IAPD Student Council will be sponsoring the Penny Wars again this year! They will be doing this all week, 11/14 through the afternoon of 11/18. All of the money raised will go to the Ogden Community Center to help with their Thanksgiving preparations. Each department will have a jar at the front desk and will compete against the other departments. Pennies are "positive points" and what you would put in your department's jar. Silver coins and dollars are "negative points" and will be what you put in other departments jars to try to make them lose. There will also be a complete list of the rules next to the jars. There will a bucket to place your names in after you donate, and you will be put into a drawing for one of two Little Apple Art gift cards for participating. Last year they raised a lot and they're excited to see how much they can raise again this year!
BOB CONDIA PRESENTATION
Bob Condia will be presenting a lecture exploring the primacy of the Body as the basis of architectural experience. He weaves contemporary research and thinking regarding biology, phenomenology, form making, and critical thinking into a coherent statement regarding our understanding of architectural space. It is extremely relevant to our work in IA and will get you thinking.  Bob will be presenting "Applied Neuroscience for Architects".  The presentation is Tuesday, November 15th, 7pm at APD West.
4TH YEAR UPDATE
The 4th year students are about halfway through their Steelcase NEXT Competition project in studio, and are having regular weekly meetings with their professional mentors from the Lauck Group in Dallas, and Perkins + Will in Chicago.  They have been extremely helpful and 4th year students are thankful for their time! On the side for fun, the 4th year class is also planning and filling out Secret Santa sheets which they have done every year as a class.  They are looking forward to a get together with their Secret Santa gifts when they all come back from Thanksgiving break! Last but not least, two students from the 4th year class, August Atzenweiler and Kendra Lemon, have officially received their free custom 'Buoy' from Steelcase headquarters that they won during their field trip this semester!  Everyone entered their name into a drawing and they were the lucky winners! Congrats August and Kendra.  Thanks to Sloan Satterlee for the update.
CURRENT STUDENT SPOTLIGHT - JAMIE CAUSEY
This past summer 4th year IAPD student, Jamie Causey, had a unique internship with a company headquartered in Iceland named Ossur.  Ossur designs and makes prosthetic limbs, as well as, support braces for the body.  Jamie worked on the "foot" team where she helped with new products for women and the updating of a user interface. Please take the time to read about her internship in the current student spotlight.
MANZO ATTENDS CONFERENCE
Prof Chris Manzo recently attended the 2016 AIA Kansas/ Central States Regional Conference.  This conference was hosted by Michael Gibson and Wendy Ornelas of the AP Design Architecture Department. The conference was themed 'Infrastructure: Architecture as Basis, Foundation, Support' and featured keynote presentations of work by Allison Williams, FAIA, Steve Dumez, FAIA, and Yen Ong, AIA. The students of the AIAS presented a serious (and hilarious) spoof on 'Why Architects Wear Black...' Robert Condia presented a talk on "Applied Neuroscience for Architects" highlighting the neurological and biological basis of our experience of spatial design. Bob will be re-presenting his presentation on November 15, 7pm at APD West.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
We have posted several new internship opportunities for spring and summer just this week.  We've also posted a few interesting job opportunities.  Be sure and check it out on the IAPD website.  As always, if you need the user id and password please email iapd@ksu.edu.
