PROJECT ARCHITECT OR INTERN | PRIME DESIGN/ELSEY PARTNERS, LLC

Prime Design is seeking a Project Architect or Intern to join our office in Manhattan, KS to assist in the development of projects nationwide. ARCHITECTS FOUNDATION / MCASLAN FELLOWSHIP

The Architects Foundation / McAslan Fellowship funds academic travel opportunities for top graduating students and provides mentor relationships with international architects for these students. The Fellowship will be a traveling and study scholarship, funding undergraduate seniors and graduate students for a summer of travel and study.

This merit-based scholarship will be awarded to two recipients from the USA annually. The students will engage with McAslan+ Partners and the World Monuments Fund in the restoration program for the Madame Gauthier Villa in Port au Prince, Haiti, as part of the U.S. State Department’s newly awarded Ambassador’s Fund of $200,000 to be launched in 2019. Travel will occur to New York and to Port-au-Prince.

Two (2) five thousand dollar ($5,000) fellowship awards will be granted. Students must be matriculating from a NAAB-accredited undergraduate architecture program or studying within a NAAB-accredited master’s degree program.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Architects Foundation/McAslan Fellowship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • US Citizen
  • Undergraduate student matriculating from a NAAB-accredited architecture program; OR
  • Graduate student attending a NAAB-accredited architecture program.

a/e PRONET DAVID W. LAKAMP AIA SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was initiated in 1990 by a/e ProNet, a group of insurance professionals providing risk management services to architects and engineers. In 1999, the scholarship was renamed for David W. Lakamp. Mr. Lakamp was a founder of a/e ProNet and a trusted advisor to the profession. He left behind a legacy of professionalism and integrity that set new standards in the field of insurance services. In his honor two students who best demonstrate strong interest in practice and risk management will each receive a $5,000 award.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the a/e ProNet David W. Lakamp AIA Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Fourth-year student in a NAAB accredited degree program; OR
  • Fourth-year student of a four-year pre-professional degree program in architecture accepted for direct entry to a two-year NAAB accredited M.Arch/D.Arch program; OR
  • First-year student in a NAAB accredited M.Arch/D.Arch degree program for students with undergraduate degrees in another discipline.

  • Familiarity with exterior wall systems
  • Familiarity with roofing assemblies

  • Experience with working on suspended scaffolding and vertical heights

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Project Manager with project tasks
  • Review and organize project-related documents
  • Research building codes and industry standards
  • Write assessment reports
  • Perform field investigations, including non-destructive testing, travel required
  • Performance modeling of enclosure assemblies using different software
  • Analyze proposed repair/design options.
  • Design and draft repair drawings and details
  • Prepare construction documents such as repair drawings and specifications
  • Observe construction and installation of repairs/designs in the field, including quality assurance testing
  • Prepare site visit reports and meeting minutes
  • Interact with project clients, sub-consultants, and repair contractors

Intern Architects perform architectural assignments under direction, but not immediate supervision. They work from designs of others, compile data, perform design tasks, and assist in the drafting of schematic, design development and contract documents. They are expected to continue to develop a thorough knowledge of architectural drafting, detailing, building materials, codes and construction. Intern Architects may consult with manufacturers, evaluate materials and assist in architectural specifications and report writing, depending on complexity of individual assignments.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master of Architecture from an accredited university
  • Minimum of two years of related experience in all phases of architectural production and detailing required
  • On a licensure track or currently working towards licensure
  • Proficient in Revit; Rendering software experience desired
  • Willingness to make the required time commitment to meet project and company obligations
  • Great listening and communication skills
  • Results oriented and willingness to work with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate an understanding of assignments and expectations

Responsibilities:

  • Produce high quality, accurate presentation, design, and construction documents
  • Independently apply standard architectural techniques and procedures to architectural assignments
  • Perform code research
  • Assist in design conceptualization
  • Assist in construction administration of projects
  • Assist in development of project specifications and cost estimates
  • Remain flexible and perform a variety of tasks as needed on a project
