With dementia on the rise in aging populations, Forget Me Not Memory Care provides an innovative living solution
for those living with cognitive memory disorders and a pedagogical opportunity for all involved. Featuring wings of
dormitory nursing student housing, long-term family apartments and short-term rooms, and workforce housing, this
center offers a care model that currently doesn’t exist in the healthcare market. Introducing such housing options is
the first in the nation, requiring collaboration with local building authorities to change licensing for the memory care
center. Additionally, program elements inspired by small-town living- including a marketplace, cafe, and community
gathering spaces- encourage all residents, visitors, and staff to socialize and connect. Various types of alternative
therapy spaces- music, animal care, horticulture, art, and virtual reality- in combination with occupational and
physical therapies provide a unique and customizable care plan for each resident. The inner courtyards encourage
exploration and interaction with hands-on gardens, water features, and local artists’ works. Looking beyond the
inner development of the Forget Me Not Memory Care Center, the public access park educates and personally
connects the local community to the care center and its residents, bridging the gap between highly innovative
resident care and community awareness.
