Designing gym environments to be inclusive and supporti ve for all individuals, including survivors ofsexual assault, presents a multi faced challenge. Traditi onal gym spaces in contemporary US culture emphasizephysical fi tness and aestheti c appeal. For survivors of sexual assault, entering a gym can evoke signifi cant anxietyand fear, which may stem from a range of issues including concerns about personal safety, unwanted att enti on, andthe challenge of reestablishing a sense of control and normalcy in a public setti ng. Addressing these concernsrequires a thoughtf ul and empatheti c approach to gym design that goes beyond standard considerati ons offuncti onality and aestheti cs. It involves creati ng environments that facilitate physical health and prioriti ze mentalwell-being and safety for all users. This includes implementi ng features that enhance privacy, promote a sense ofsecurity, and foster a supporti ve community.
