Bushels of Joy is a General Practice Pediatric Clinic. Located in Wichita, Kansas, the design of
the clinic pertains to the staff, children ranging from birth to age 16, and caregivers. The client, being the two
practitioners, has a goal to implement the On-Stage Off-Stage Model, exceed A.D.A guidelines, allow for flexibility in
spaces, and integrate a concept related to the region. Kansans are very familiar with harvest. There is beauty and
satisfaction in cultivating and enjoying the fruits of labor. This can be applied to the growth of children. The design
of Bushels of Joy Pediatrics strives for inclusivity, abundance, and positive growth. The development of a child is
much like the turmoil, hardship, and reward of a harvest season. Once the work has been put in by caregivers,
healthcare professionals, and other support systems, then the child may finally reap the seeds that have been sown.
Bushels of Joy Pediatrics works to enrich a child’s terrain through color, pattern, and texture. The design of the clinic
allows dreams to take root through exploration and imagination. Through integrating familiar elements experienced
in this region, the users of the space may feel comfortable, safe, and at home.
