 Message from the Department Head

Hope your first week back went smoothly and that you are back in the rhythm of life in Seaton! Thank you to those of you who indicated you would like to serve on committees, you should hear about them soon. The next few weeks will be filled with opportunities for you to take advantage of: speakers who will intrique and inform you, exhibitions of wonder, and interactions with our remarkable IAPD Advisory Board. I hope you will participate as much as possible.

The IAPD Student Council elections will occur this Friday, speak up to serve as one of two representatives of your studio.

Please let me know of anything we can do to make your experience here even better. We encourage you to explore other studios, learn what their projects are, and discuss design across IAPD and across APDesign! As a point of reference, the current Plot Club officers for IAPD are David Backs (5th) and Brianna Stevens (4th). Applications are available for additional plot club officers.

News Kudos to our colleagues in Landscape Architecture / Regional & Community Planning on yet another successful Design Days! Even though Kendra Ordia is on a leave of absence, she continues to serve K-State, most recently as an appointee on the K-State 2025 Sustainability Strategic Planning Committee. Our MediaScape gets great use, here with the current 3rd year studio as they enjoy a product design process presentation during studio.

Meet Little FiFi, a creation of one of our alumni, Sally Jane of thecitygirlfarm.com. Check out the array of chicken footstools on their website! The chicken footstools are being entered into the Professional Sculpture division at the Kansas State Fair, celebrating it's 100th year! The chickens will be on display from September 6th-15th in the Oz Gallery on the fairgrounds in Hutchinson.

Current Projects

Four professionals from THREESIXTY ARCHITECTURE (Matt Kastel, Eric Linebarger, Jacob Littrell, and Alissa Wehmueller) are assisting in Neal Hubbell's Fourth Year Studio this semester. Their engagement began with tours through a diverse set of three office projects designed by THREESIXTY ARCHITECTURE, the tour culminated at the new headquarters for AMC Theaters. We look forward to their engagement and expertise throughout the semester and appreciate the generosity of their time and resources.

Involvement Opportunities

Interviewing: Advice from the Experts presentation is happening this Thursday, Sept. 5 @ 4 pm in the Union Big 12 Room. There will be a panel of experts this year to provide tips and tricks on interviewing well for students.

Remember, it is never too early to be in the habit of closing/locking studio doors when leaving, even for a short time.
