Ekdahl Lecture Series Poster Competition

The Challenge: 

To create a visually attractive and informative poster for the Ekdahl Lecture Series with the understanding that each individual poster is a part of a ‘family’ of relatable posters for the academic year of the Series. The competition entry will be for the Fall 2023 Ekdahl Lecture Series speakers.  

In addition to the poster used to publicize each individual lecture, an overall ‘Series’ poster will be required. The competition entry will be for the Fall 2023 Ekdahl Lecture Series.

The contest winner will be required to create the Fall 2023 Ekdahl Lecture Series family of posters. One fall poster, summarizing the slate of lectures; as well as individual posters for each individual lecture, total of 4 posters

-When submitting artwork for contest consideration, you agree to abide by the following rules.
 

Eligibility


-Must be a currently enrolled student in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design 

Contest Entry Guidelines 

Posters


-Each entry must include (two) formats of the individual lecture and Fall Series poster layout – one of each must be for a print version and the others in digital layout for the display screens. (Thus, each entry will include four (4) posters).

-You are advised to avoid using imagery that would require permissions, subscriptions or other artwork and photography. It is safe to assume that we can procure permissions for images of projects from our speakers.

-One poster layout designed for the 2023 Fall Ekdahl Lecture SERIES, this will be a PRINTED poster.

-One poster layout designed for an INDIVIDUAL Ekdahl Lecture, this will be a PRINTED poster.

-One digital screen layout designed for the 2023 Fall Ekdahl Lecture SERIES, this will be used DIGITALLY for the TV screens. 1080px x 1920px

-One  digital screen layout designed for an INDIVIDUAL Ekdahl Lecture, this will be used DIGITALLY for the TV screens. 1080px x 1920px

File Types and Sizes

-Contest entries must be submitted in either .JPG, .PNG or .GIF format, have dimensions as listed below for the type of product under which you are submitting artwork, and a file size not exceeding 2MB (2048 KB).

Limit to Entries

-Each contestant may submit no more than two (2) entries. Each entry must have BOTH the print and digital versions for BOTH the individual speaker and Series posters. 

Guidelines & Judging Criteria 

-This section describes general guidelines for what our judges are looking for when deciding to approve your artwork and its award merits. Before submitting your entry for consideration, please understand the following guidelines. 

Appropriate Content 

-Content should fit what is being asked for – Ekdahl Lecture Series Poster using the dimensions noted above.  

-Individual speaker posters should include: Ekdahl Lecture; Title of Lecture, date & time, location, a graphical image and APDesign logo. 

-Content should be appropriate for public use. (If it wouldn't be acceptable for a Times Square billboard, it won't be accepted here.) 

-The content/design should be unique and interesting to a wide audience of designers. 

-The design should incorporate the  APDesign logo. Depending on your design you may use either logo shown below.

Overall Design

-The layout should be clean and communicate clearly.

Other considerations

Keep In Mind... 

-Although photography is fine to use, come up with a unique use of it by incorporating it into your overall design. 

-The design must be your own original concept. 

Saving Files 

-Files must meet the dimensions and file size to fit the poster type you are designing.

-In order for your poster is to be considered, it needs to meet the requirements as listed in the 'Contest Entry Guidelines' section of this page.

-When saving your design, find a happy medium between quality and file size/dimensions for submission.

-If you are a winner, you will be required to submit a high resolution .eps file.

General Conditions 

Authorize Rights to  APDesign
 

-By submitting your artwork, you authorize APDesign to post your entry on our site indefinitely, and grant APDesign the right to use and display prints of your design for marketing purposes. 

Prize
 
-APDesign will make awards in the form of scholarships in the amount of $1,000.
 
 

-In addition, the winner will be employed by the Office of the Dean to complete the posters throughout the academic year. 

-The winner of the contest will create the “Ekdahl Series” poster, the winner will be required to complete two posters, one for Spring semester that will contain all of three (3) of the speakers and a spring Series poster for all three speakers.
