The Curtain Wall Studio: Innovation in Curtain Wall Assembly Systems
Course Description:
This article presents research conducted by graduate architecture students and Assist. Professor Michael Gibson at Kansas State University. The studio investigated the history and manufacturing of curtain walls and, working with a window manufacturer, developed five experimental curtain wall systems intending to reduce envelope energy transfer versus conventional curtain wall systems. In the article the experimental systems are presented with experimental tools and methods, conclusions related to thermal and daylight performance, and finally the architectural implications of these systems.
