The design of this chair is based off the concept of evolution and how a concept can evolve as testing and experimentation informs the design. Evolve is inspired by the geometric shapes and lines from the postmodern and modern design movement. The chair incorporates geometric lines and appears seamless in form as well as small connections that are highlighted using brass elements. The use of felt layers allows for user customization. One of the main goals of this project was to create a design that is lightweight and easily moveable, therefore, material usage was an important factor in the design process. The chair is intended to be used as a side chair or outdoor chair for people of all ages. The fabrication techniques used for the final design were water jet cutting, metal bending, welding, metal lathing, and felt cutting.
