The naturally bioluminescent firefly was utilized as biomimetic inspiration to create an efficient ambient light source. The heads of the floor lamp imitate the specialized makeup of layers within a firefly's abdomen; a diffusing exoskeleton, a middle light-producing layer, and an inner reflective layer. Furthermore, the lampshades can be turned on independently from each other to control the room's brightness and allow light to dance across a space similar to the relaxing atmosphere of fireflies in the summer.
