Designing interiors isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about shaping how people feel, live, and thrive in a space. Our program teaches human-centered design, ecological theory, and creative practice to prepare students for a career rooted in impact and innovation. We emphasize sustainability, well-being, and inclusive design for all life stages.
Shaping environments that influence human behavior, health, and well-being, students in the Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (BSID) at Kansas State University engage in a human-centered, research-based approach to design. Housed in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design, BSID is a CIDA-accredited undergraduate professional degree whose roots reach back to 1873, with continuous professional accreditation dating to 1982; the program joined the Department of Interior Architecture and Industrial Design in 2024, sharing in APDesign's studio-based educational culture. Through a process of inquiry, students learn to conceptualize, plan, and execute interior environments that respond to diverse users and complex social contexts, developing as designers through an eight-course design studio sequence that ladders understanding and application from simple through complex design problems — grounded from the first semester in theories of environment and behavior and reinforced by coursework in evidence-based design, environmental systems, and lighting. With a curriculum that integrates design research, technology, and professional practice — including hands-on studio learning, internship and practicum coursework, and an established international partnership with Inje University in South Korea, culminating in a mentored capstone project — students are prepared to enhance human experience, support well-being, and strengthen communities. Graduates leave ready to enter professional practice across residential and nonresidential interior design specializations and to pursue relevant professional credentialing.

We offer a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (B.S. ID), designed for students new to design. The program is CIDA-accredited and NASAD-approved and meets the educational requirements for the NCIDQ Exam. From day one, you'll develop the skills to design environments that improve lives.
