Carrie Zimmerman founded Uncommon Programs and Consulting 8 years ago to address growing needs within universities to build communities of inclusivity and diversity, rebuild structures and systems that don't support equitable and just environments, and support each member of the community. A few of the topics covered are listed below:

Diversity Point Person

Karina Taufi, Director of Student Recruitment
Student & Academic Services

As the APDesign Diversity Point Person, Karina is responsible for a number of duties related to the college’s strategic planning of diversity and inclusion initiatives. In this position, Karina also acts as the liaison between the College and the President’s Commission on Multicultural Affairs, where she collaborates with Diversity Point People from across the University to set diversity goals and policies, under the guidance of the President’s Commission on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. Kompass Program

Kompass is a free, three-day extended summer orientation and freshman-year retention program designed to accelerate academic success for incoming freshmen multicultural and first-generation students in architecture, planning, and design; agriculture; business; and engineering.

Participating students receive academic success support and participate in team-building activities, workshops and business professional etiquette classes. And, they will be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship for their freshman year. The program extends into the first academic year and complements APDesign's first-year peer mentoring and APDPro opportunities.

Student Ombudsperson

Struggling to get something resolved? In a conflict with a fellow student? Can't get on the same page with your professor or advisor? Need clarification on a university policy? We've got you covered.

Your student ombudsperson will listen to your concerns and help you navigate your situation through confidential guidance, resource referrals and more. Look to your ombudsperson to assist you with:

Developing conflict resolution techniques.
Navigating tough conversations and situations.
Understanding university policies, procedures and resources.
