Michael McGlynn, AIA, LEED AP

Professor McGlynn teaches design as a process that integrates the conceptual, spatial/formal, and technical aspects of architecture. His students learn that the consideration and resolution of technical issues are critical to achieving their conceptual and spatial/formal intentions. They also learn the value of study sketching, physical modeling, and diagramming for design ideation, analysis, and communication. His integrated and process-oriented approach has improved both the quality of students’ design work and their ability to clearly convey their design intentions.

Professor McGlynn’s scholarship is both an outgrowth and extension of his teaching. It focuses on theoretical and pedagogical concerns related to architectural technology/design integration and architectural design methods. He has publicly disseminated his scholarship at the local, national, and international level through refereed journal and conference publications, and oral and poster conference presentations. While his most recent investigations have been in the area of design communication and the design process, he is shifting his focus back to the area of integrated design pedagogy where he investigates integrated approaches to teaching architectural technology and design.
